A History of Ascension Episcopal Church
The history of Ascension Church parallels that of Twin Falls—in fact, a number of our founding members were also founding members of the city itself. Any congregation that began meeting in a saloon nicknamed “The Bucket of Blood” and has survived two World Wars and three physical moves is a powerful witness to the power of God with us!
Key Dates in Our History
1905 First Episcopal service held in Twin Falls (November 1)
1907 Trinity Church (Philadelphia) raises money to build an Episcopal Church in Twin Falls
1908 Rev. Alvard Chamberlaine appointed resident clergy of the Twin Falls mission
1940’s Church grows from Mission to Parish status
1953 Church relocated to Blue Lakes Boulevard and is served by Rev. Norman Stockwell
1994 Twelve acres of land purchased on Eastland Drive North for future expansion
2001 Albertson’s Food Stores purchases Blue Lakes property; ground broken on Eastland Drive North
2003 Palm Sunday marks the first service on Eastland Drive North
